Changes at KTVI

By | FOX, Journalism, KPLR, KTVI, The CW | No Comments

It’s official. KTVI will go Hi-Def on February 16.  No word on whether KPLR will HD at the same time. Additionally, FOX2 should be back in their O&O styled set this week.

If both KTVI and KPLR go to high-definition newscasts, all stations producing news in St. Louis will be hi-def. I’ll keep an eye out.  I’ve also heard that they been testing HD newscasts at their new shared studios with KPLR in Maryland Heights.

KTVI gets new website

By | FOX, KTVI, website | No Comments

FOX2 LogoLocalTV’s KTVI has got a new website, replacing the MyFOX template O&Os are currently using.  There is also a new O&O template in place. The URL has changed from www.myfoxstl.com to www.fox2now.com.

Other LocalTV stations will be receiving changes from their current websites. KFOR will get a new site soon, and Milwaukee’s WITI has already received the new template.

The FOX2Now logo also has interesting new look.  The “2” is from the ABC days, rather than the new “FOX O&O” look adopted in 2006.

Chris Clausen, Voice of WHBQ FOX13 Memphis, Passes Away

By | FOX, KTVI | No Comments

Chris Clausen

Chris Clausen (1945-2008), the voice of WHBQ FOX13, and locally in St. Louis as secondary voice for KTVI FOX2, has died from complications from a massive stroke he suffered last week.

Clausen, who provided promos for WHBQ from 1995 to the present. Clausen has also been a a vocal fixture at numerous other stations around the country, and has been heard on St. Louis television on KTVI since 1989, back when the station was an ABC affiliate and branded as the 2Newsteam.

KTVI used Clausen as primary voice person up until 1998, when Scott Chapin, also heard nationally on many FOX stations, took over. Clausen can be heard on KTVI uttering “This portion of FOX2 News is sponsored by…” He can also be heard providing his voice for many local businesses in their ads on KTVI.

FOX13 Memphis has a humourous video that he did for a FOX13 story on local Memphis TV pitch people.

Mr. Clausen was 63.

Brit Hume to Leave Nightly Newscast

By | FOX, Journalism | No Comments

FOX News Channel’s Brit Hume is expected to leave his nightly post on his show “Special Report” and pursue a part time role with the FOX News Channel, reports Dave Bauder of AP.

Mr. Hume, 65, will continue his role with “FOX News Sunday,” a political program similar to ABC’s “ThisWEEK,” CBS’s “Face the Nation,” and NBC’s “Meet the Press.” The program that airs on both the FOX News Channel, and many FOX stations across the country.

Hume had state previously that was considering possible retirement when his contract was up.

Quote:

“I’ve been doing this a long time, and it’s just not as fascinating to me as it used to be,” Hume told the New York Observer two years ago. “Look, journalism is a lot about enthusiasm. You have to have it. I find I am no longer as interested in politics as I was.”

YouTube Find: KTVI Saturday Sign-On From 1987/News Open From 1987

By | ABC, FOX, KTVI | No Comments

Here’s an interesting find on YouTube: A KTVI sign on from 1987, with a Inspirational Word segment, and the Open to Kidsongs, more familiar to viewers on PBS, rather than ABC. KTVI is an ABC Affiliate, owned by the TImes-Mirror Broadcasting company. This is prior to the 1991 sale to Argyle (now Hearst/Argyle).

Without Writers, TV loads Up on Reality, Reruns

By | ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC | No Comments

Steve Gorman of Reuters reports that viewers looking for new episodes of their favorite shows will find plenty of shows…just not scripted ones.

The writers strike has already affect more than 50 television shows, and has already forced late night shows into reruns. What do viewers have to look forward to?

On NBC, “American Gladiators,” A celebrity “The Apprentice,” “Baby Borrowers,” and “My Dad is Better than Your Dad.”

ABC has “Oprah’s Big Give” where Oprah Winfrey makes philanthropic donations.

FOX will have “American Idol,” the singing contest, now in it’s 6th season, along with two newcomers, “When Women Rule the World,” a social engineering experiment, where the traditional gender roles are reversed, and “The Moment of Truth.”

On CBS, “Survivor” returns, along with a winter edition of “Big Brother,” the British import reality series.

Returning to ABC are “Dancing With the Stars,” “Supernanny,” “Wifeswap,” and “The Bachelor.”

Industry experts think that FOX is in the best position during the writers strike with “American Idol” and “Sarah Connor Chronicles,” a Terminator spin-off series.
