Is Victoria Recano gone at KTLA?

leave a comment

Los Angeles — The TVSpy message boards are atwitter at the removal of St. Louis-native Victoria Recano’s picture and bio removal from Tribune’s KTLA’s website. KTLA is a sister station to KPLR in St. Louis.

Recano, 34, started her TV career in St. Louis as part of Team 11 at KPLR-TV at the age of 15. then owned by Koplar Communications.  She later worked as reporter at KPLR.  Her picture on KTLA’s site has been replaced with KDNL-alum Derrin Horton. More after the break.

The CW Fall 2009/Spring 2010 Schedule

The netlet returns with one demo in mind: white women 18-34.  This demo caused multiple cancellations on other networks, so why the CW continues to push this one is a mystery.  Here’s the their schedule:

Changes at KTVI

leave a comment

It’s official. KTVI will go Hi-Def on February 16.  No word on whether KPLR will HD at the same time. Additionally, FOX2 should be back in their O&O styled set this week.

If both KTVI and KPLR go to high-definition newscasts, all stations producing news in St. Louis will be hi-def. I’ll keep an eye out.  I’ve also heard that they been testing HD newscasts at their new shared studios with KPLR in Maryland Heights.

Dan Gray to KPLR?

leave a comment

Viewers of KPLR‘s News11 will have no doubt noticed that Rick Edlund isn’t at the desk. Rick anchored until the end of November sweeps.  Since then, Melanie Moon has been holding down the desk, capably , I might add, since then.

Those  of you wondering if Melanie might continue anchoring by herself, the good folks over at stlmedia.net  are ruminating that Dan Gray of KTVI will be joining her at the desk starting December 8th.

It’ll definitely be interesting to see. We’ll find out next Monday…or not.

Changes Coming to KPLR (CW11)

leave a comment

Sam Zell’s changes are finally starting to be felt in St. Louis. KPLR, the Tribune-owned CW affiliate is moving its newscast effective September 8th.

CW11 News (or whatever it’s going to be called–more on that later) is moving to 7pm, Monday – Friday for an hour. These changes are rumored to help maximize the revenue streams for both KTVI (LocalTV LLC) and KPLR (Tribune) during newscast advertising avails.  As it stands right now, KPLR and KTVI are directly competing against each other, even though they share common ownership (not directly).

As it stands right now, by refocusing it’s newscasts during the week, the station will no longer run newscasts on Saturday or Sunday, which is an unfortunate loss of an additional source of local news (might not be so bad if KDNL had a newscast, would it?). Sport Director Rich Gould’s “Fan Show” will be seen on Saturdays, and other programming will populate the Sunday schedule.

CW Fall 2008 Schedule

leave a comment

For more information see Buddy TV.

My take on the schedule:

I personally have issues with the CW’s ‘white teenage girl-only’ demo that the CW is embracing; it’s an asinine demo, and it probably won’t work. The CW’s flimsy fall schedule is white, very white, and borders on exhibition nonsense. Further the CW’s strategy this fall is apparently: all shows must contain upper-class rich white (women), and sparingly show other minorities (or men). The shows that prominently feature African-Americans (Everybody Hates Chris, The Game) have been pushed off on Friday night deathslots, along with reruns of Tyra’s exhibitionist nonsense.

Tyra’s extremely dull America’s Next Top Model returns, again featuring another cycle of women vying for spot in an already crowded industry.

Reaper returns midseason, to help hold up a very flimsy network schedule. Expect, MyNetworkTV to wipe the floor with The CW on WWE Smackdown nights, and the Big 4 to wipe the floor with the netlet on other nights.

Observe Sam Zell’s Tribune stations distance themselves from the network further as the rebuilding of Trib’s TV station group continues.

The CW Schedule after the bump.
